Body Wrap Aftercare: What to Do in the First 48 Hours
By Heena's Salon Astoria | August 9, 2026
Fast rule to remember: for the first 24 to 48 hours, keep heat and sweat low. That means no hot showers, no saunas, and no hard workouts. Your body wrap is a short appointment, 30 minutes, but the way you treat your skin right after is what protects the result.
If you’re in Astoria, the aftercare challenge is usually the same thing we deal with all summer: humidity. A body wrap and a sweaty subway ride don’t mix. This guide keeps it simple, with a timeline you can follow even if you’re commuting back to Long Island City, Manhattan, or Jackson Heights. And if anything feels off, we want you to reach out before you push through it.
0 to 8 hours: keep your skin cool, dry, and unbothered
Right after your body wrap, we generally recommend you treat your skin like it’s in a “settling” period. Keep the area cool. Skip anything that ramps up heat or friction.
Do
- Wear loose, breathable clothing so nothing rubs or traps heat.
- Drink extra water and keep it steady through the day.
- If it’s hot out in central Astoria near Ditmars or 30th Avenue, plan a cool ride home. Air conditioning helps. A small cooling pack on the back of your neck can help too.
Don’t
- Don’t take a hot shower or bath right away.
- Don’t work out, run errands fast, or do anything that makes you sweat.
- Don’t apply random fragranced body lotions, body oils, or strong actives unless we’ve told you it’s OK for your skin that day.
Astoria commute tip: If you’re heading toward Sunnyside, Woodside, or East Elmhurst and you know the platform gets stuffy, bring a small fan and pick a less crowded car when you can. The goal is simple: avoid sweating so your skin stays calm.
8 to 24 hours: avoid showering, sweating, and soaking
For most body wraps, we generally recommend you avoid showering and soaking for at least 24 hours, and sometimes closer to 48 depending on the wrap type and what was used on your skin. That also means no swimming pools, no ocean, and no long baths.
And skip the “quick steam to relax.” Heat can irritate freshly treated skin, and heavy sweating can make your results fade faster than they should.
24 to 48 hours: shower smart, then keep it gentle
Once you’re past that first day, you can usually start easing back in. If you’re going to shower, keep it lukewarm. Hot water feels good, but it tends to dry you out and can stir up redness or sensitivity after a wrap.
Pat your skin dry instead of rubbing. And don’t exfoliate yet. We like to keep exfoliation off the table for about 72 hours, because your skin is still settling and you don’t want to overdo it.
Exercise in the first 48 hours
If your workout is going to make you sweat hard, wait. A calm walk is usually fine once you’re comfortable, especially if you can stay cool. After restrictions lift, Astoria Park can be a great spot for an easy walk where you’re not stuck in a sweaty train car.
The first week: the 3 things that make body wrap results last longer
Body wrap results duration depends on your body, the wrap type, and how consistent you are afterward. The pattern we see is simple. People who keep their skin calm and keep their hydration up tend to feel like their results “stick” longer.
1) Keep heat and sun exposure low
Avoid long sun exposure for a few days, especially if your skin is feeling dry or warm. If it’s a sticky Astoria summer week, take the shade, use air conditioning when you can, and don’t plan a sauna day.
2) Skip scrubs and strong actives for 72 hours
No salt scrubs, no rough exfoliating gloves, and no intense acids on the wrapped area for at least three days. If you get dry flakes, don’t pick. Hydrate gently instead.
3) Keep your routine consistent, not intense
A steady shower routine with mild cleanser, lukewarm water, and a simple moisturizer usually beats doing “everything” at once. Your skin responds better when you don’t surprise it.
Post body wrap care products: what we like, what we’d skip
Keep your product choices boring for a couple of days. It’s not the time for a new scented lotion or a strong “tightening” cream you grabbed last minute.
What to put on your skin after a body wrap
If we’ve cleared it for you, stick with a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer. Apply with light pressure. No aggressive rubbing. If you’re not sure what’s safe with what we used during your wrap, just ask us first. We’d rather answer a quick question than have you irritate your skin.
Skip for now: exfoliating scrubs, fragranced body oils, heavy body butters if you’re clog-prone, and anything that stings when you apply it.

When to reach out to our team (and when it’s totally normal)
Mild warmth, light redness, and a “tight” feeling can happen right after a body wrap, especially if you run sensitive or it’s been a hot day in Astoria. That usually settles down as your skin cools.
Please call us if you have persistent redness that isn’t calming down, severe discomfort, hives, swelling, blistering, or any signs of an allergic reaction. If you’re pregnant or nursing, we want you to talk with us before you schedule or as soon as you have questions about what’s safe for you.
